It's officially 2013 and we are choosing our new years resolutions. Is your new years resolution to be kinder to the environment or to save energy. Everyone should already be doing their part, no matter how small. Whether it's recycling, using less energy or using reusable bottles instead of plastic water bottles, it's a good start toward decreasing your carbon footprint and achieving those goals.
I've recently discovered Bits Limited that offers a variety of surge protectors and outlets that will help you with just that. I was sent a Smart Strip to review and am excited about this product!
This energy saving outlet is rather large. It has 10 outlets for plugs, and color coded to mark which outlets are automatically switching, constant hot, or the control outlet. This really is a smart strip. I had to break out the User's guide and learn how to use it properly. There are a lot of techy details on how many joules, volts and amps that the smart strip can handle, but I'll give you the basic concept of how it works.
You can use your TV or computer into the control outlet and anything you want to automatically switch on and off with the TV or computer, you plug into the green section. For instance, I can plug my computer into the control outlet and plug the printer and hard drive(s) into the automatically switching outlets. That way when you turn the computer on, the printer and hard drive(s) automatically switch on too. Same goes for the TV. Plug the DVD player, sound system, game systems into the automatically switching outlets so that they get turned on and off when the TV does.
The red section is for stuff that you want to stay on all the time. There is an on and off switch that you can turn everything off, including the constant hot outlets should you need to. In the end, this could really save you some money on your electric bill. I know that I pretty much keep my printer plugged in and on at all times. Now it can turn on with my computer and save energy when I have it shut down. Another thing that I like about this is that it gives you the ability to plug the smaller plugs into the outlets that are closer together and the bigger plugs into the outlets that are spaced further apart.
I am so pleased with this product. It's such an interesting concept and I've never tried anything like it before. I'm exploring the other outlets and surge protectors that Bits Limited has to offer and you should check it out too.
