Downy is my favorite fabric softener and has been for years. There's just something about the scent of Downy that makes me feel like home. We don't have a new washer by any means. Ours still has an agitator and nothing is automatic but it's still working, so we are still using it. The only thing about using fabric softener with those older machines is you have to wait till the just prior to the spin cycle to add it in. With the Downy ball, you don't have to worry about that.
Let me just say, what a time saver the Downy ball is. At the start of the wash, you put the amount you need into the ball, seal it and toss it in. There are convenient markers along the side to show the fill line for each size load. The ball will release the fabric softener for you.
For most people, they have newer machines that already do this for you and have a special reservoir to put the fabric softener in. For those like me, I encourage you to go check out the Downy Ball.
