2 Epson LabelWorks LW-600P Review

Epson logo

As a mom, when I try out a new product, my thought process is usually revolving how can I use this product to make my life easier? I have had a goal of getting organized ongoing and never seem to quite finish out any of my ventures. A great addition to organizing is with labels. Up to now, I've made my own makeshift labels with address labels and scissors.

Epson has an assortment of Label printers to choose from. The one that has been my saving grace this fall is the LabelWorks LW-600P Portable Label Printer
I've never seen an app-enabled label printer before and was so excited to try this one out. With the ability to control it from a convenient app, it opens it up to a wide world of convenience.

There are many options to choose from. You can download the Label Editor software onto your home PC or laptop. Even more awesome than that, is the ability to print the iLabel app onto your iOS or Android device. Now you can literally print out those labels anytime, any place.

Out of the box: Everything you need to get started is included. That includes all of the cords and booklets as well. That is one of my pet peeves when getting a new product and there is no power cord, etc. So, bonus points right from the get-go. They've packaged everything conveniently marked and easy to manage.

I didn't have an initial impression that it was going to be difficult to use or get started. There are the aspects of downloading software and the app. Besides that it was crazy simple to get started. You literally insert the batteries (six AAA batteries not included) or plug up the AC adapter that is included. Pop the cartridge in and you are ready to start labeling.

A mentioned, you can download the software onto your computer and use the USB cable to print directly to the printer. The software is very easy to use and it includes more options in regard to fonts, etc than the app.

You can find the Epson iLabel app in iTunes or Google Play. It took a few seconds to search and download the app through my Google Play. When using the app, it pairs up with the printer with Bluetooth. This is my fav because it requires even less wires.

Whether you are using the software or the app, it is simple to use, and Epson has designed a straight forward approach to creating and printing those labels.  You can go with a simple no-frills word or phrase and print, or you can get much more involved, playing around with borders and symbols. You can even import your own logo, graphics and pics. Just playing around, I was able to outline a pic from a photo off of my gallery on my phone.
Keeping in mind that even with all these options, the labels that are printed are basic in nature. They are printed in black ink with the initial cartridge and you are limited to solid lines which doesn't allow for anything but 2D designs.
If you want to explore even further, you an play around with speech to text to print and use your own handwriting on screen of your app to print. They have an option for QR codes and barcodes which would be great if you are going to be using this for your own business. You can save the label designs and pull them back up later. You can also import your contacts from email or your phone and make labels from those.

It was very easy to setup, make and print labels with the Epson LabelWorks LW-600P. As soon as I opened it up, I did an internet search to see what other tapes are available. You can find tapes that are clear, silver, iron-on for clothing and even glow-in-the dark. The cartridge contains both the tape and the ink. The tape included with the printer was 1/2 inch but you can get tape cartridges up to 1 inch if you want. At this time of this writing, I haven't bought any additional tape cartridges, but I have my eye on the silver 1/2 inch cartridge that I want.

You may be looking to get a label maker for work purposes, or a mom that just wants to get more organized, or just simply neurotic and like order, the LabelWorks LW-600P will fit the bill. It is so simple to use, you can even task your child with the label making and inspire them to get more organizing, actually creating less work for you. You'd have to supervise of course, less it would get out of hand. My daughter has a tendency to go overboard and wants to label, Fridge, Toilet, Lamp, etc. That defeats the purpose.

I do like the idea of labeling drawers for clothing, pull out shelves for spices, etc, and canisters that contain baking ingredients. For offices, there are so many obvious organizing options.

You can buy it directly from Epson at Epson.com or find it on Amazon. MSRP of $99.99
